MELBOURNE (June 17, 2013) – Ansell Limited (ASX:ANN) has released the following statement in response to the news report on the Victorian ABC 7.30 Report on 14 June 2013 concerning Merindah Park, Sandringham:
“The report on Merindah Park, Sandringham by the ABC 7.30 Report concerns Bayside City Council parkland which is adjacent to a former Pacific Dunlop battery site.
Ansell only became aware of these issues three weeks ago when contacted by a resident. Current Ansell management has not been contacted by the EPA or Bayside City Council in relation to the clean-up by Council between 2008 and 2010 nor in relation to the EPA Notice dated 3 June 2013 served on Bayside City Council. The EPA Notice dated 3 June 2013 served on Bayside City Council makes reference to the former Pacific Dunlop battery site and excludes this site from the scope of the Notice.
The Pacific Dunlop battery site was closed in the late 1980’s and sold to a developer. We are currently proactively searching our records and archives in relation to the sale transaction so that we can fully understand and respond to this issue.”
