Three More Ansell Manufacturing Plants Gain ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certification

July 2024, Three Ansell manufacturing plants – Coimbra in Portugal, Melaka in Malaysia, and Bangkok in Thailand – have gained ISO 50001:2018 certification for their Energy Management Systems. The achievements were based on Ansell’s improved manufacturing processes in the three countries, which now incorporate energy-efficient practices and technologies, and follow the company’s first ISO 50001 certification for Ansell Textiles Lanka in Sri Lanka in 2023. These certifications for the plants in Portugal, Malaysia and Thailand form part of Ansell’s long-term decarbonization strategy and further the company’s goal of achieving Net Zero for its operations (Scope 1 and 2 emissions) by 2040.

ISO 50001 is an internationally recognized energy management system that helps organizations improve productivity and better manage energy-intensive assets. Ansell products are now increasingly being made in plants that have energy-efficient manufacturing processes, and this new certification at three more sites is further progress as the company works towards their goal of all manufacturing plants being certified to ISO 50001 by 2028. Improved energy management is also another way that Ansell is delivering on the commitments made when they joined the Climate Group’s EP100 initiative in 2022.

John Marsden, Ansell’s Chief Operations and Supply Chain Officer, said: “Implementing ISO 50001 at our sites in Portugal, Malaysia and Thailand provides a structured approach to energy efficiency, and a milestone on the way to have all Ansell manufacturing plants having certified Energy Management Systems by 2028. This is an important technical pillar as part of our overall strategy to reduce our environmental footprint”.
