Ansell submits Commitment Letter to SBTi to set science-based net zero targets for our value chain

July 2024, Brussels, Belgium, Ansell has formally submitted its letter of commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which confirms Ansell’s intention to set near-term and long-term science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets, thereby establishing an end-to-end value chain Net Zero target to be verified by SBTi in accordance with SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard. In financial year 2022, Ansell announced science-based Scope 1 and 2 reduction targets to achieve net zero for its own operations by 2040, supported by a short-term target of a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, with an added commitment to rely on offsets for less than 10% of residual emissions. Emissions from purchased goods and services, transport and distribution, fuel- and energy-related activities, and end-of-life treatment make up a significant portion of Ansell’s Scope 3 emissions. The Company has been investigating key activities in its value chain to define its Scope 3 reduction targets, including further engagement with its supply chain and focusing on options for product end of life and raw materials.

Ansell Managing Director and CEO Neil Salmon explained: “At Ansell, we are determined to establish meaningful and long-term targets for a low carbon future. We are actively working to reduce emissions in purchased goods and services, upstream and downstream transport, and fuel and energy-related activities. We aim to submit our near- and long-term net-zero targets for validation by the SBTi in the first half of 2025. This validation will verify the feasibility of our approach and assure our customers that Ansell is a reliable and sustainable partner, aligned with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C. By choosing Ansell, customers can trust in our commitment to delivering sustainable solutions and driving meaningful change.”

The SBTi’s Net-Zero Standard is the world’s only framework for corporate net-zero target setting in line with climate science. It includes the guidance, criteria, and recommendations companies need to set science-based net-zero targets consistent with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
