In Malaysia, PPE legislation is governed by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) to ensure that employers provide approved PPE to employees. DOSH is responsible for ensuring safety, health, and welfare at work. The approval of PPE has been introduced by DOSH since 2016, and it is applicable to all PPE products used in the workplace, including both imported and locally made PPE products. Currently, there are seven types of PPE being regulated. A summary of the regulated types of PPE and their enforcement dates is provided below:

Currently, DOSH only recognizes product certification licenses and test reports from SIRIM, which is the premier industrial research and technology organization that provides international accreditation through quality management system, product certification, and testing services. Hence, it is commonly referred to as DOSH-SIRIM PPE approval. In general, the certification process is as follows:
DOSH approval is valid for 5 years, provided that the license holder fulfills the yearly surveillance audit requirement by SIRIM. The public may refer to the “approved list” on the DOSH official website for the PPE approved in Malaysia.
