1 April 2014 - Iselin, N.J. – Ansell, a global leader in protection solutions, today announced that on March 19, 2014, the Company experienced a fire at its Bangalore Suretex Condom facility in India. The fire primarily affected the finished good warehouse. No injuries were reported to employees, contractors or emergency personnel and the fire was fully extinguished by local fire authorities. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The primary damage caused was to finished product that was awaiting shipment to customers and warehouses around the world. Production lines are not believed to have suffered major damage. Some minor ancillary production and packaging equipment will require replacement or repair and an assessment of the work required to remediate heat, smoke and water damage is ongoing. The manufacturing facility will remain offline until this assessment is completed, and essential repairs are completed. Production is expected to recommence during the current quarter ending June 30, 2014.
Ansell Limited is taking immediate action to ensure supply is maintained to customers via the Company’s other facilities and does not anticipate any major interruptions to customer service or delivery. Some rescheduling of orders is likely to be necessary in the fourth quarter and that may moderately reduce revenue in that quarter. The damage to finished goods is expected to be covered by insurance and although it is still too early to have completed a full financial assessment, Ansell currently does not expect a material impact on its FY'14 results.
