May 2024, Ansell has won two awards at the 2024 Sustainability, Environmental Achievement & Leadership (SEAL) Business Sustainability Awards. SEAL is an awards-driven environmental advocacy organization based in the US, whose awards honour companies across the globe that make measurable contributions to sustainability, and innovations that positively impact the environment. The SEAL awards comprise four categories – Initiative, Innovation, Product and Service – and Ansell earned distinction in the Initiative and Product categories.
Ansell received the SEAL Environmental Initiative Award for their SMART PACK™ packaging for surgical gloves, which is recyclable1 and therefore reduces hospital waste generated by non-recyclable, single-use packaging. SEAL’s Sustainable Product Award was for Ansell’s MICROFLEX® 31-103 compostable glove, which is certified to TÜV’s OK compost INDUSTRIAL standard. The 31-103's compostable formulation, a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic, fully biodegrades to international standards in industrial composting facilities, and thus doesn’t release any microplastic into the environment.
Monica Sagardoy, Ansell’s Vice President of Global Product Marketing – Surgical Gloves & Life Science Sterile, said: “We’re immensely proud to have been recognized in this year's SEAL Awards. Recyclable packaging reduces waste and demonstrates Ansell’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible packaging.”
Geraldo Oliveira, Ansell's Vice President for R&D, said: “Both of these award-winning innovations support a circular economy and help lessen the global problem of plastic waste. We're thrilled to receive these two SEAL awards and Ansell will continue leading the way in the sustainable design and development of personal protective products and packaging.”
